A Word from Tamika

You know what’s beautiful about February? It’s a month that invites us to celebrate African American history - Black American history - and love — all at the same time. It’s a month rooted in reflection. A lot of people use this time to pause, to show appreciation, to remind the world of our power, our wisdom, and the history that lives inside us. And I want to remind you to do that too.

January comes in hot with the new year energy — goals, plans, to-do lists, what needs to be fixed, what needs to get done. But when we step into February, I want you to loosen your grip on the checklists just a little. Instead of focusing only on what you need to accomplish, focus on celebrating yourself. Loving yourself. Self-love is the first love, and I need you to remember that you set the tone. At the end of the day, no one is going to prioritize you, your needs, and your dreams the way you can.

This month, I want you to intentionally do something kind for yourself. Congratulate yourself. You woke up today. You took a walk. You organized that closet you’ve been putting off. Those moments matter. Acknowledge them. Life isn’t meant to be one long list of boxes to check or goals to chase. Especially right now — when our corner of the world feels loud and heavy — it’s important to tap into the beauty that exists right in front of you.

Remember, life is happening around you, not on social media. Choose presence. Choose love. Choose you.
