A Word from Tamika

I just got back from Las Vegas, and every time I’m there, I’m reminded how the entire energy of that city is built on betting—on chance, on timing, on the hope of a big reward. People come from all over the world willing to risk something, knowing they might walk away with nothing… but also knowing they might walk away with everything. It’s risky, sure—but there’s something admirable about that level of belief.

And it got me thinking: maybe we need to apply that mindset to life a little more. Taking the leap. Making the gamble. Even when we don’t know how it’s going to turn out. Because sometimes, we don’t even realize what we truly want until we’re brave enough to take the risk. That’s my encouragement to you.

Last month, we leaned into February as a time of love, reflection, and honoring where we come from. Now as we step into March, we’re celebrating Women’s History Month—celebrating women across every lane imaginable: literature, tech, entertainment, philanthropy, medicine, business. Women of all walks of life, making impact in ways both loud and quiet.

So with that being said—bet on yourself. Figure out what your “big gamble” is. It doesn’t have to be about money. It could be committing to daily walks, changing how you eat, saving intentionally, going back to school, or finally saying yes to something you’ve been scared to try. Whatever it is, it should make you uncomfortable. Growth doesn’t come from comfort—it comes from risk. From stretching. From leaping before you feel ready.

On my end, I’m getting ready to hit the road. Make sure you’re following me on YouTube and social media so you can come along for the ride. Black Writers Weekend is going on tour next month, running through April and May before returning to Atlanta for our main event at the end of July. Grab your tickets, secure your passes, and tap in.
